FineTech developed its patented InverSep® concept over a period of three years from extensive test work carried out by full time FineTech R&D personnel, at its fully equipped research facility in Pretoria. This test work has been supported by detailed mathematical modelling of the process.

More than 320 test runs have been conducted to date and these range from small bench-scale test runs to large laboratory-scale pilot plant test runs using bulk samples.

The test work has focused on chromite-rich tailings (UG2, LG6, and MG), but successful test runs have also been completed on iron ore, cassiterite, and ferrochrome fines.

The test work is ongoing and is currently focused on the +10 to -38-micron sized fraction.
